kerkevik@btinternet.com BioI am 49, I identify as Queer, though I like all genders & sexual identities. I suffer from mental health problems, which are combined with bouts of, quite debilitating depression, and my Queer identity is sanctuary and has been since I was eight or nine (though I didn't start using terms like 'gay' or 'straight' until I was in my twenties.
I am a believer in a female god / goddess (with a small 'g') / deity, and I've read the bible & the qu'ran, as well as a great many other spiritual tracts (mostly in my late teens & early twenties) in coming to this belief.
While I'm very much on the left of the political spectrum, I am a great believer that the pursuit of individual freedom comes with a responsibilty to seek the knowledge to pursue that freedom with respect for the freedom of others, even if you may disagree with their spiritual and/or political beliefs. I am in British political terms a lapsed Liberal Democrat (ever since the party ditched Charles Kennedy).
I am opposed to censorship, except in respect for the right of children to enjoy a childhood free from adult concerns, insofar as this is possible. I am a great believer in access to education for all.
I am a huge, and rapidly becoming fanatical supporter of Glasgow City Ladies Football Club, as well as being a fan of Hot Scots FC, a gay-friendly football team based in Edinburgh. I also follow Stenhousemuir FC (current in division two of the scottish football league).
I have been a fan of the Washington Redskins since the early eighties, and a follower of the Cleveland Indians since I saw Major League, though truly the only baseball team I will ever truly love were the Brooklyn Dodgers (I was much distressed when I discovered that the team had ceased to exist). I don't have an Ice Hockey team to support, as the teams I did follow, Hartford & Winnipeg, moved to 'bigger tv areas' though I do follow with interest the fortunes of all the Canadian teams, as well as the Detroit Redwings & the New Jersey Devils.
My favourite movie of all time is The Shawshank Redemption, with my current favourite movies being Loving Annabelle, Latter Days, Pourquoi Pas Moi? Desert Hearts, Better Than Chocolate & Mamma Mia - The Movie.
Musically I'm open to everything, but my current favourites are Samantha Schultz, Julie London, Brandi Carlile, Joan Osborne Dar Williams & Melissa Etheridge. Numbered amongst my all time favourites are Joan Baez, Janis Joplin, Bessie Smith, Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding, Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie & Big Mama Thornton (as well as far too many others to include here).
I'm a Rolling Stones, over the Beatles man (though I happen to think that the Kinks were better than both; a Chuck Berry / Rhythm & Blues man over 'white' rock 'n' roll (especially Elvis Presley (though I love the music of Gene Vincent, Eddy Cochran & Buddy Holly).
